fictitious bright blossoms

COOL THINGS I FOUND:

looklook, this video is animated, and made of dice! isn't it FANTASTIC

"There is a distance that exists between all people; between you and I, between lovers, friends, family and strangers. And it is the breadth of that distance that adds depth to our insecurities. Things are perfect all the time for no one at all."

unproductive symmetry

On my playlist recently (and on my mind!) is the soundtrack of one of my new favourite films, The Boat That Rocked. Re-edited and released in North America under the title Pirate Radio, this one is definitely worth watching! (either version; from what I can tell, although a couple of the scenes that made me laugh were cut {in particular, the hilarious stag night}, the essence is still pretty great)

Just remembered I blogged about this movie before, that is how fab it is, as I watched it on a flight at the end of the summer, but Terry took me out because I wanted to see it again on a bigger screen for my birthday. The music is fabulous!

Song I can't stop humming: Elenore by The Turtles (check out the groovy hair and outfits!)

I love the voice and music of Bethany Joy Lenz (or is it Galeotti?). I've been playing When The Stars Go Blue (Ryan Adams cover) on the guitar, and it's probably begun to annoy my roommates while I try to get the timing right. My picking is sub-par. Here's the song, there isn't a video, but its the audio that is important anyway!

Done classes! I now wait and study till the 15th..and then finals! Ack! SO looking forward to some time off at Christmas!

mexican castles

another gem of a vid! this one is for the XKCD geeks (ie if you read xkcd.com, and if you don't, why the heck don't you)

I Love xkcd from NoamR on Vimeo.

School robs me of the time I wish I had to spend on:

a) guitar: my callouses are gone - played a bit last night and it hurt my fingers - must toughen up! And I do need some practice, I want to be able to play barre chords more successfully.

b) cooking: I have slowly been moving away from ready-made curry pastes (Patak's, ftw) and buying ginger, garlic, and whole spices - I'm looking forward to new challenges in the kitchen, playing "how close can I get it to mum's curry?".

c) reading: borrowed Tess of the D'Ubervilles from the Waterloo library, let us see how fast I can get through it with all the schoolschoolschoolschoool...

My life may not be scintillating. But living it is more interesting than watching yours.

the deep-seated neuroses of elephants

i got sent this vid, and it's so great that i am sharing it here - it's one long shot and a catchy song and looks like so much fun! made in montreal, i believe..

and to add another layer of impressive, apparently it was shot in just one take!

Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize! diplomacy rewarded; although i am, in general, an obama supporter - very mixed feelings here. he has changed the international climate, that much is certain, and that is a colossal achievement, in and of itself. but, the US has not left iraq, stepped it up in afghanistan and has not passed carbon emission laws yet, not to mention nuclear stockpile issues...on the other hand, he has brought america very far in terms of world politics, and let's face it, they have a long way to go.

spending the long weekend (happy canadian thanksgiving, world!) in whitby with terry and his family, looking forward to a bit of a break from waterloo (curse you, rainy skies!). and then...midterms :(

"i love you" toast!

and not to sound overly materialistic, but..
my 'when-i-become-a-billionaire' wishlist (work in progress):
~ manolo blahnik heels
~ kate spade clutch
~ custom-made suit of armour fitted to my body
~ be the producer (possibly co-director) of a high budget theatrical production of Peter Pan again with a cast of my choosing - folks, you know who you are!
~ a high tech telescope
~ pinstripe suit with pencil skirt from someplace uber posh, say, versace ;)
~ a room just for my hats & shoes

coming up: oktoberfest, leader banquet, tripthi's birthday, academic success
stay tuned...

glitterbomb

fall so far:

~ orientation week was BUCKETS of fun!

Piraveena, Hari, Natasha, Dalton, Skyler, Shanti, Hami and me on Monte Carlo night, lookin' spiffy

~ went to, on a thursday evening, a barbecue at kaitlyn's with friends for a meal chock full of amazing food, and it has been a while since i've been that full! bbq ribs and chicken, roasted red pepper, baked halibut with much garlic and black pepper, a delicious potato salad and pina coladas - what more could a girl ask for, really?

~ time spent with glen acres baptist church has been promising recently. getting involved with their youth group is hopefully going to be a good experience :)

~ had dinner with caelyn and mark on a saturday night; always lovely to see them. they gave me some homemade raspberry and grape jam, which is undeniably the most delicious jam i have ever tasted.

~ threw terry a surprise birthday party! and it went really well, which was such a relief because we were all quite sure something would go horribly wrong on the night - and as a sidenotes, i discovered i am a terrible liar and am possibly the worst person to assign "distraction" to.
